THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (1903): The first feature motion picture with a complete story features many cinematic firsts. The film stars Gilbert M. “Bronco Billy” Anderson, considered the first true movie star and father of the movie cowboy. Some scenes are colorized, a process where early filmmakers colored parts of each frame of a print. The technique proved amazingly painstaking, and if copies were attempted, every print would be different. The studio released only one color version of the film.
LIFE OF AN AMERICAN COWBOY (1903): Indians harass a stagecoach. Stars Bronco Billy.
DREAM OF A RAREBIT FIEND (1906): A man gorges himself on rarebit and thus suffers spectacular hallucinatory dreams. Adapted from Winsor McCay's films and comics of the period. Stars Jack Brawn.
