that 'Hopalong Cassidy' star William Boyd was the first choice to play Moses in C. B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments"?

Cult Classics

        Reefer Madness (1936)

Director: Louis J. Gasnier.
Cast: Kenneth Craig, Dorothy Short, Dave O'Brien, Lillian Miles, Thelma White, Carleton Young, Harry Harvey Jr.
Description: This is the Citizen Kane of anti-marijuana movies produced in the '30s and '40s, a devastatingly funny (but meant to be deadly serious) yarn about clean-cut high school students who fall into the clutches of affable but amoral dope dealers. Poverty Row perennial Dave O'Brien is the standout as an inveterate toker who finally goes berserk and turns homicidal. Also known as Tell Your Children, Reefer Madness represents the absolute high point of this silly sub-genre and can be enjoyed anew with each viewing. Produced by Dwain Esper and George A. Hirliman. Written by Paul Franklin and Arthur Hoerl.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 67 mins.   Item #1736  $14.99

        Sex Madness (1937)

Director: Dwain Esper. (Possible)
Cast: Vivian McGill, Rose Tapley, Al Rigeli, Stanley Barton, Linda Lee Hill, Ruth Edell.
Description: If you want to see what passed for sex education in the good old days, you need go no further than this unintentionally hilarious exploitation film slapped together with amateur actors. Vivian McGill plays the burlesque-show performer who contracts syphilis and gets a wake-up call regarding the dangers of venereal disease.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 50 mins.   Item #3109  $14.99

        Teenage Wolfpack (1956-German)

Director: Georg Tressler.
Cast: Horst Buchholz (Henry Bookholt), Karin Baal, Christian Doermer, Joe Herbst, Viktoria von Ballasko.
Description: Several years before rocketing to international stardom as one of the "Magnificent Seven," Horst Buchholz cut his histrionic eyeteeth on a series of gritty, topical programmers. In this one he plays the leader of an out-of-control gang of German juvenile delinquents. Buchholz dominates the show with his charismatic presence. Produced by Wenzel Lüdecke and Gert Weber.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 89 mins.   Item #1262  $14.99
Format: VHS
Unit

        Test Tube Babies (1951)

Director: W. Merle Connell.
Cast: Dorothy Duke, William Thomason, Timothy Farrell, Peggy Roach, John Michael, Mary Lou Reckow.
Description: Today's audiences would laugh Test Tube Babies off the screen, but it was highly controversial when originally released in 1951. Husband Bill Thomason and wife Dorothy Duke desperately want a child and after repeatedly failing to conceive they try to have a baby through artificial insemination. Earnest drama only provokes chuckles today, but it's great fun to watch. Produced by George Weiss, who "discovered" cult favorite Ed Wood.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 83 mins.   Item #2682  $14.99
Format: VHS

        Tomorrow's Children (1934)

Director: Crane Wilbur.
Cast: Diane Sinclair, Donald Douglas, Sterling Holloway, John Preston, Carlyle Moore Jr., Hiram Hoover, Crane Wilbur.
Description: More shocking today then it was back in 1934, this alarmist melodrama warns against the threat of government-enforced female sterilization. Diane Sinclair plays the daughter of alcoholics and sister of mentally and physically challenged siblings; she's like to get married and have kids, but some people think that's a baaaad idea. The film is in the worst possible taste but is no less hilarious for that. Produced by Bryan Foy. Written by Wallace Thurman and Crane Wilbur (who plays a sympathetic priest).
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 55 mins.   Item #2718  $14.99
Format: VHS
Unit

What Becomes of the Children? (aka Sorrows of Love) (1936)

Director: Walter Shumway.
Cast: Joan Marsh, Robert Frazer, Natalie Moorhead, Glen Boles, Claudia Dell, Barbara Pepper, Franklyn Farnum.
Description: Judged by Poverty Row standards, this domestic drama has an all-star cast, but the screenwriter definitely waded in from the shallow end of the talent pool. The story provides lots of fun in its hokey way: dad is a two-fisted tycoon and mom is a social butterfly, leaving the kids with no one to keep them in line. Produced by Roland C. Kennell and Anthony Landi.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 53 mins.   Item #3562  $14.99
Format: VHS

        The Wild Ride (1960)

Director: Harvey Berman.
Cast: Jack Nicholson, Georgianna Carter, Robert Bean, Carol Bigby, John Bologni, Gary Espinosa.
Description: The best thing about this cheaply turned out programmer is the raw but charismatic starring performance of Jack Nicholson, then just beginning his career. He plays a hot rodder who feels betrayed when his best friend settles down with a possessive wife, so he kidnaps the woman and dusts some cops during a high-speed chase. Produced by Harvey Berman and Kinta Zabel. Edited by cult filmmaker Monte Hellman, also in his salad days at the time.
Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 59 mins.   Item #3043  $14.99
Format: VHS
Unit

        The Wind of Change (1961-British)

Color/B&W: B&W.  Running Time: 64 mins.   Item #3648  $14.99
